Caregivers, Practise Simple Hygiene and Infection Control Techniques to Stay Healthy and Safe from Covid-19!

Recently, one of my relatives just passed on. She was in her 90s. I thought that her daughter, being her primary caregiver, would be devastated so I spoke to her to try to console her. But her response was, “It’s better for her this way. I was so worried that she would get infected with this virus that we did not dare to bring her for her usual Vit. B injection at the clinic.”

Many of us are naturally worried about our loved ones being infected with the Covid-19 infection, especially if they are seniors as the disease tends to be more serious for this vulnerable group. I have been nagging at my mother to wash her hands. It used to be her nagging at me to wash my hands and feet upon returning home! In this article, I like to talk about handwashing and mask handling in a way that will provide protection to yourself and your loved ones!

Why are the medical community and the Government encouraging us to wash our hands? Proper handwashing can really help get rid of a lot of germs and virus on our hands. Recently, I started paying more attention to how people wash their hands in public toilets and realised that most people do not wash their WHOLE hands and do not wash long enough to kill those germs and viruses. Handwashing is not just going through the motion of soaping your palms and fingers carelessly and washing the soap off with water. We need to be mindful about the different contact points on our hands and fingers and give them a proper rub and wash. Watch this video to learn about the proper handwashing technique coupled with how to wear a mask correctly.

Let’s all do our bit and do not get complacent as the disease spreads globally.

1) Please stay home and wear a mask if you are unwell. Change the mask once it’s soiled or wet. The disposable surgical mask is not made to be worn forever.

2) See a doctor.

3) Open the windows, keep the air circulating.

4) Wash your hands thoroughly.

Stay healthy and safe from the Covid-19 virus, my readers.
